[TencentDB for SQL Server] Announcement on Changes to the Operational Log File Generation Policy and Collection Switch
Dear Tencent Cloud user,
To improve the experience of querying and downloading operational logs for TencentDB for SQL Server, Tencent Cloud will roll out an updated logging feature starting October 26, 2026 (UTC+8). This update optimizes three types of operational logs: slow query logs, blocking event logs, and deadlock event logs. Please review the details below.

Log File Generation and Download Behavior After This Update

When accumulated log data reaches 10 MB, the system automatically rolls over and generates a new file. Files are available for download once their status changes to Completed.
Files that have not yet reached 10 MB are shown with the status Writing. If such a file already contains log records, you can click Download in the Operation Logs list on the console; the system will generate a downloadable file on demand without waiting for it to reach the 10 MB threshold.
If an instance has not generated any log data, no log file is created, and the download option is not available.

Impact Statement

Variable file time span: The time span of log files is no longer fixed at 5 minutes. On high-load instances, multiple files may be generated in rapid succession; on low-load instances, it may take considerably longer to produce a complete file. To view the latest logs, go to the Operation Logs page and click Download to export the current file in Writing status (available only when the file already contains log data).
Blocking and deadlock event collection is enabled automatically: For instances where collection was previously disabled, it will be turned on by default after the update, and the corresponding log files will start being generated. You can view them directly on the Operation Logs page in the console. For instances that already had collection enabled, existing threshold configurations remain unchanged. The collection switch can no longer be disabled; to reduce log volume, increase the collection threshold.
Log files generated before October 26, 2026 remain unchanged and continue to follow the 7-day retention policy, with automatic deletion upon expiry.

Effective Time and Scope

Effective time: Starting October 26, 2026 (UTC+8).
Scope: All TencentDB for SQL Server instances across all regions and all specifications.
Applicable versions: Slow query logs: supported on all database versions. Blocking and deadlock events: supported only on SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2025 Enterprise editions (the SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition is not supported). The automatic enablement of the collection switch applies only to the editions listed above.
